In India, traditional social collectivities like caste, tribe, gender, and religion continue to form the base of social exclusion, marginalisation and inequality to a large extent, despite operation of the mighty forces of modernisation and globalisation. This book presents an interdisciplinary critical analysis of social exclusion and inequality under contemporary globalisation with a focus on the condition of major historically marginalised communities in India.
The book discusses different aspects of identity-based social inequality and the exclusion of marginalised sections, including the current market-driven process of exclusion in India. Moreover, it covers socio-political aspects of social exclusion, including anti-globalisation social movements in the country.
