Seasons of Reverence

Seasons of Reverence radiates with the beauty of the Great Plains and nature's extravagant language and music. These poems capture earth's loveliness and the joy and sorrows of Lorenzen and her family in their everyday lives, raising sons, farming, watching middle school football games, waiting with hope through a son's terminal diagnosis, visiting granddaughters, and feeling gratitude for her ordinary life. She considers what this earth is revealing through all of this beauty lavished upon all and knows life is a generous gift. Her poems are specific to and so passionate about her place, like in "June," "I tell you that I love this month / when the wildness of summer comes alive, / and, more importantly, you entered this world exuberantly," making them about everyone's place in this world. So, when the speaker in the title poem, "Seasons of Reverence," invites readers to go with her to Silver Creek, "It's May, again-- / come walk to Silver Creek with me / and listen to its sweet discourse / about how light interacts with water--," Lorenzen suggests they go.
