Thanks to Freud we know that many of our most important mental activities proceed entirely outside our consciousness in the hidden caverns of the mind that are power-houses of motivation. This essay looks at the hypothesis that all psychic phenomena are based on illusion and is less scientific than the hypothesis of the dual constitution of man.
