This book examines the reciprocal relationship between theology and congregational singing through the experience of emotion. Exploring the link between emotion and music, it covers the intersection of psychological theory, theology, and lived experience. The chapters draw on an in-depth case study of two Filipino Baptist churches with strong singing traditions. Douglas Bachorik considers what kinds of emotions are experienced, the effect on participants, and how lived experience fits with prevailing emotion models. This book concludes with practical considerations on the role of music-evoked affect in shaping belief.
