The volume develops a comparative account of the contemporary crime–terror nexus around two central claims: that relationships between political violence and organised crime can stabilise into divergent and durable forms, and that the state increasingly helps produce the categories through which crime and terrorism are distinguished. Across eleven chapters and a conclusion, contributors examine structural change, financing, rebel governance, lone-actor terrorism, illicit markets, and state-led reclassification in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.
