The Outside World

In Memory of Lucy Ellen Bender   Lucy was born on June 11, 1942 in Grantsville, MD, and went home on August 21, 2018 in Chattanooga, TN. She was an adventurous spirit who lived in Grantsville, MD; Meyersdale, PA; Morgantown, WV; Virginia Beach, VA; Rockville, MD; and Cleveland, TN.   As a young teenager, Lucy helped raise her three younger sisters when her mother was ill. As a young woman, she overcame many challenges as she raised her three boys who inherited her adventurous spirit.   Lucy had a deep faith in God and selflessly did a tremendous amount of volunteer and charitable work wherever she lived. She was generous and had an infectious laugh.   Lucy will be remembered for her love of writing, music, the beach, and the mountains.
