The first part provides an overview of green transition in transport infrastructures (eco-design and life cycle assessment, recycled and alternative materials, and bio-based materials and technologies). This is preceded by an overview of related initiatives in the EU and the US. The second part describes intelligent and digital transformation aspects in geotechnical engineering, including geotechnical databases, sensing and monitorization, and machine learning tools and optimization. The third part presents transport infrastructure case studies that demonstrate the contribution of geotechnical engineering to creating smarter, more efficient, more resilient, and more sustainable infrastructures. With 14 chapters, this book serves as a reference tool for academics and engineers in the fields involved or interested in the design, construction, and maintenance of transportation geotechnical infrastructures.
